Wii addons: things you can buy for your pet wii

November 25th, 2008

If you already have a wii system but want it to be more functional and fun, you probably need to buy some wii addons.
Things you can buy include specialty controllers, chargers, chords, skins, cleaning kits, fans, repair kits and wii covers. All of these you can find at this wii addon store.

If you are looking for a great addon controller, the wii fit balance board can’t be beat. It already is used in a lot of games such as wii fit and wii ski, but there are a bunch of new games being developed for this fun, new controller. This controller prevents joystick boredom and allows even young children and older non-gamers to quickly get in the action.

Another great wii specialty controller is the wii zapper. It allows you to play arcade style shooter games at home. It is great for war and hunting games and other games that involve a gun.

Wii Fit Aerobics Component Review

October 20th, 2008

The Wii Fit game has an aerobics component that can really work up a sweat. All of the games in this section use your Mii character that you get to create the first time you log into the game. You can make your Mii look like you, or you can really have fun with it and be creative. Your Mii will represent you in each of the exercise games in this section.

The aerobics component lets you have fun and get your heart rate up. With nine activities to choose from, you’ll be able to have a great time working out in the privacy of your own home. The time you spend exercising earns you FitCash, just like you do in the other components of Wii Fit.

In Hula Hoop, you move your hips just as if you really were rotating a hula hoop. The faster you spin, the more points you get. Occasionally, one of the other Miis will throw another hula hoop towards you. It is your job to lean into it and catch it so it will also circle your hips. It can be tricky to catch the extra hoops. The best way to catch them is to put your whole body into leaning to get them, otherwise they may just get away.

In Super Hula Hoop, expect more of the same, except the difficulty level is raised. The more hula hoops you catch, the higher your score can climb. This is a fun game. Be prepared to be tired at the end of it if you’re just getting started with the game.

In Basic Step, you use the balance board just like you use the step in a step class. Keep time with the music and follow the prompts on the screen for which foot goes where. Each step gets an “OK” if you did the move, and a “Perfect” if you also get the timing right. The better you perform, the faster the tempo goes.

In Advanced Step, new movements are added to complicate the patterns. It is a little tricky at first, but with a little practice it is easy to pick it up.

In Free Step, there is no music. You can choose ten, twenty or thirty minutes, and then you follow a beat to do low impact steps. The beat can be heard through your Wii Remote, and if you keep an eye on your Mii on the screen, you’ll do just fine.

In the Basic Run, you set the balance board aside. You have a guide to follow on the screen as you run in place. The scenery changes around your Mii as you jog through the virtual park with other Miis. The important thing to do during the jog is to maintain an even pace. If a little dog runs by, chase after it quickly to find an alternate route.

You can also jog with a friend. Using two Remotes, you’ll both be able to jog along the path. Finally, in the Free Run, you can choose to run for ten, twenty or thirty minutes. In this version, you don’t have to follow a guide.

The last aerobics game is Rhythm Boxing. You want to step on and off the board while throwing punches using the Wii Nun-chuck attached to the Remote. To punch the machine you are facing, you need to step forward off the board and then throw a punch with the appropriate hand. The better your timing, the better your score. This game can be confusing at first. Pay attention to your trainer and you’ll soon catch on. At the end, you’ll get a free punching time to try and knock out your machine. You don’t need to step off the board for this, just punch as fast as you can to get points.

Wii Fit Games Component Review

October 13th, 2008

One of the most popular components of Nintendo’s Wii Fit is the games. Designed to teach better balance, these games are fun, challenging and are arguably some of the better parts of the Wii Fit. The balance games utilize the balance board. This board is able to detect minor shifts of balance and translate it to the game you’re playing. The board is surprisingly durable, although they do have a weight limit, making the Wii Fit unsuitable for some would-be players.

Some of the balance games also utilize your Mii that you create when you first sign in. The games have some interesting twists and with some you must unlock harder levels instead of having them just progress as you go. There are eight balance games. Some are ready at the beginning, others you earn by spending more time working at Wii Fit.

Ski Jumping is more challenging than you’d think. Just when you think you’ve got it nailed, you hesitate a split second too long and find your Mii tumbling down the slope instead of soaring gracefully above it.

There are two Slalom games; you can try your hand at skiing and snowboarding. Again, this one seems deceptively easy only to prove a bit more challenging than you thought. It’s fun, too!

Heading Soccer Balls adds more challenge by adding shoes and pandas coming along with the soccer balls. You don’t want to get hit by them, however… only the balls.

Table Tilt is really challenging. You shift your balance, which tilts the surface that shows on the screen. The varying surfaces come in different shapes. They all have something in common though… they all have edges, a hole or two, and balls that you must keep from falling off the edge. Instead they must go through the hole to get to the next level. This is a game that takes concentration and skill. The simple premise belies how fun and challenging this game truly is.

The Balance Bubble is fun. Your Mii is in a bubble which you must maneuver down a curvy river. The first level is fine. After that, more obstacles appear that can pop your bubble. The further down the river you get, the better score you earn.

Tightrope Tension is easier for some than others. Your Mii must walk a tightrope while avoiding snapping jaws that come towards you. Jumping seems easy, but the timing is what is tricky on this challenging balance game.

The Penguin Slide is really fun. You’re a little penguin on a piece of ice that tilts depending on where you stand. Fish are jumping out of the water, and you must try to catch them without falling off the ice. This game (and probably several of the other balance games) would be great fun at a party.

Finally, you can try the Lotus Focus. During this game, you must remain as still as possible while staring at a flame.

Each time you play one of the games, you earn FitCash, which is deposited into your piggy bank. When you have enough points in there, new games are unlocked. This is the way the Wii Fit keeps track of the time you spend working out. Minutes earned are based on the number of minutes doing an activity instead of the number of minutes of overall play. You can also get harder versions of a game by being the best at an activity and achieving a 100% score, or by playing a game a certain number of times.

The best thing about the Wii Fit game component is that it appeals to all ages. The games are fun for the entire family, and anything that encourages more activity is a good thing.

Wii Fit Yoga Section Review

October 6th, 2008

If you’re considering purchasing a Nintendo Wii Fit, congratulations! The Wii Fit has many different exercises and games to help you improve your balance, muscle tone, strength and stamina. The Wii Fit allows you to create a Mii character for yourself. This character will accompany you through many of the games and exercises you choose.

Nintendo’s Wii Fit has a yoga component that is both fun and is helpful for your posture and muscle tone. The yoga poses make use of the balance board, which will keep track of how steady you are when you are holding a pose. Don’t worry if this is difficult at first. With practice, you will improve. For those who are unfamiliar with yoga, you may feel a bit intimidated before you try it. There is nothing to worry about, however… just pick your onscreen instructor and they will guide you easily through the exercises. The onscreen instructor comes in two choices: male or female. Pick the one you like best and get ready to discover the world of yoga. The Wii Fit is actually a great way to get an introduction to yoga for beginners, even though some of the later poses can be a bit more challenging.

Each yoga demo allows you to see a 3D model of the exercise you have chosen. Your instructor will model it for you. Watch the exercise in real time from any angle you wish so you develop an indepth understanding of what you are expected to do with a given pose. You can repeat the demo as many times as you wish until you feel comfortable trying it.

The Wii Fit offers a total of 15 yoga poses to practice. When you first begin, 4 are unlocked. More poses are unlocked by accruing exercise time. The Wii Fit keeps track of how long you actually exercise and puts a coin or two each time into your piggy bank. Every so often, you get a new exercise unlocked because you have enough “funds” in the piggy bank to open them.

The first yoga exercise is just standing still while breathing deeply and evenly. This is to teach you breath control. Being able to remain steady and still while breathing deeply in and out according to the rhythm that is set for your is a good introduction to yoga, since breath control plays a big part in how you hold your poses.

During each pose, the balance board monitors your balance. There are circles or bars on the screen that you are encouraged to use to monitor your balance by keeping a small red dot within the designated area. After you’ve finished your pose, an animation will appear on the screen showing you how well you balanced. It may look like you wobbled all over the place, but trust me… even the best wobble sometimes.

Your yoga instructor will give you tips on improving your balance and provide you with feedback after the exercise on how well you did. They are always positive, so even if you need more work on a particular pose, they will help you be eager to improve your balance. You are also given a ranking, of either Yoga Newcomer, Yoga Novice, Yoga Trainer or Yoga Master. This lets you know how you’re progressing.

As you progress in the yoga component, you’ll be able to try more poses, like the Half Moon, the Warrior and the Tree. After some time working on these, you’ll be able to unlock the Sun Salutation, the Standing Knee, the Palm Tree, the Chair, the Triangle, the Downward-Facing Dog, the Dance, the Cobra, the Bridge, the Spinal Twist and the Shoulder Stand. Some of these last few can be very challenging for those new to yoga. Be sure to spend plenty of time on the earlier exercises and watch the demos for the more complicated poses as much as you need to before attempting them.

All in all, the Wii Fit is a great way to get acquainted with yoga. You can try these in the privacy of your own home, and if you find you like yoga, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a class nearby. The Wii Fit is a fun way to explore some new ways to exercise.

Used Wii Fit In Stock; get it for less

September 29th, 2008

Right now it is hard to find a wii fit for sale anywhere.  They are out of stock most places but you can still find wii fit in stock here.  If you don’t want to pay extra for a wii fit then you may want to consider buying a used wii fit.  A used wii fit will probably look and work as well as a new one since the game has not been out for long.

Wii fit is not only a good way to work out, it is also a good way to learn some yoga and to have fun playing games while exercising.  You can also use the wii fit board to play the wii ski game.  The wii ski game is also a fun way to get moving since you are trying to “ski” down a slalom slope with your character and will forget that you are doing something that is good for your health and balance at the same time.  That is the best type of exercise of all….both good for mind AND body.

I personally love tennis and find that I forget that I am exercising when I am playing it.  I look forward to getting a wii sports game  with the tennis wii sports controllers so I can play it on rainy days when I can’t afford to pay the $20 indoor tennis fee they have here in my town.  You can also buy these other wii games used if you don’t want to pay the new price.  I bought a whole set of old nintendo games for my daughter used when she was young and they worked just fine.

Funny Wii Fit Hula Hoop Video and Responses

September 22nd, 2008

This sexy, cute video was filmed a while back without the knowledge of the main character.  It shows a woman hoola hooping on a Wii Fit.  It became a web hit overnight (it says for adults only but it just shows a woman in her underwear..nothing you have not seen in the newspaper or on TV any night):

A funny video parody response was made to it shortly after:

The woman in the original got back at her boyfriend for filming her by having him hoola hoop in his briefs on national TV:

wii fit in stock on eBay September 2008

September 22nd, 2008

Wii fits and wii systems are in short supply again.  Luckily you can still find wii fit in stock here.  You can buy the wii system alone or the wii fit game plus system as a package.  Prices are a bit over suggested retail price since supplies are limited, however.

I was down at the store near my house today that sells video games and other items and I decided to buy a wii fit system so I could do better reviews of the game and system.  I was planning to buy one for Christmas for my family anyways since we don’t have any hard core gamers in the family and we like to play games together.  wii is the perfect system for us.  The store was out of wii fits and wii systems so I guess I will order online and have it delivered right to my door.

My husband does not like gaming much but he is a history buff and I was certain that a WWII shooter, Call of Duty 3 wii,  would spark his interest in gaming.  I found out that the wii zapper control is compatible with the wii war game, as I hoped, so that made me want to get the game system even more.  I think I will enjoy playing it with him as well, especially since we have a huge TV for the family to gather around and play the game with.

You can buy wii fit used if you don’t want to pay full price.  Since the game is fairly new they used wii fit should be in fairly good condition and is probably being sold by someone who got it as a gift, needed some quick money or did not find it met their particular needs.

wii fit and BMI: upsetting some users

September 8th, 2008

When I first heard about wii fit using BMI as a measure of fitness, I felt sad that they were doing it.  I guess some people are getting MAD that they are using that measure:

This video talks about using a fat percent monitor instead.  BMI is innacurate for about 8% of the population, especially people with very small or very large bones and muscles (very lanky or very stocky).  That would probably be better although I have to warn that my fat monitor was off by 16% from a water dunk test I did at the hospital (I am tall and stocky), so for a small percentage of the population even the fat monitor is inacurate.

Use Wii Fit Board to Wii Ski: We Ski game from Nintendo

September 8th, 2008

I used to love to ski and skiing games are my favorite at the arcade, so when I heard you could use the wii fit balance board to play a new wii skiing game, I was excited.  Here is a walkthrough of the wii ski game:

If you have a wii fit board you can use it to turn on the slopes and use the nunchuck controller or the wii mote to push with your poles.  You can also play without the wii board, but it definitely adds a lot of realism to the game.

The game uses a giant gray arrow in the sky to show you where the next gate is in your slalom.  You will need this since you often cannot see the gates until it is too late to get to them.

This games costs $30 to $60 depending on whom you buy it from.  Some people package it with the wii fit game so you have the board.

The game looks like a lot of fun.  I think I will add it to my wish list for Xmas.
